2010 Honoree
Kathy DaSouza, RN Neurological Intermediate Care Unit

Hudson Valley Magazine's Excellence in Nursing Award Top-20 Finalist - 2010
Westchester Medical Center's Kathy DaSouza, RN, Neurological Intermediate Care Unit captured regional acclaim as a top-20 finalist for Hudson Valley Magazine's Excellence in Nursing Awards this year. Congratulations to Kathy for this well-deserved honor!
Excerpt from Kathy's nomination letter... "My nomination for the Excellence in Nursing Award is for Katherine Mebane DaSouza. When I met Kathy before she became a Nurse, something about her impressed me. Years later, I found out she had applied to nursing school while still working as an examiner for Westchester County Department of Social Services. I was truly impressed again by her. I told her, as a retired RN myself, that nursing would be hard work. Well, she not only graduated from nursing school at the top of her class, but went on to receive the Phyllis Wheatley Scholarship for nursing. After graduating, she began her career as a Medical Surgical Nurse and later went on to specialize in Neurological Nursing and has become an Intermediate Care Nurse in the Stroke unit at Westchester Medical Center. Her knowledge and cheerful demeanor has a positive impact on her patients, colleagues and the community."
