Pediatric Critical Care Medicine

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital is an 18-bed unit that includes a 4-bed Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery unit (PCTS). Our state-of-the-art PICU allows our medical caregivers to employ our clinical expertise and newer technologies in a compassionate arena where "family centered care" is delivered. The PICU sees approximately 1,300 patients a year. The breadth of pathology of admitted patients to the PICU includes all possible pediatric illnesses.

Our attending physician staff is fellowship trained and board eligible/certified in pediatrics and the sub-specialty of PCCM. The PICU nursing staff has a 25 year history of pediatric critical care experience, and our dedicated respiratory therapy team has extensive experience dealing with pediatric patients that require respiratory support services.

The mission of the medical caregivers of the PCCM division is to deliver excellent medical care for critically ill or injured infants, children and adolescents requiring our tertiary/quaternary center - while at the same time supporting families during this intense emotional time.
