Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency resides within the Department of Dental Medicine at Westchester Medical Center. The four-year program offers certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as an M.D. option to those who successfully complete the program.
About the Program
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents of New York Medical College undergo clinical training at three sites: Metropolitan Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, and St. Vincent's/CMC of New York. Residents prepare for their certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery through a variety of clinical and academic activities, including:
- Seminars, lectures, conferences, journal and video clubs
- Ongoing patient care evaluation including review of patient charts, treatment planning, management and complications
- Rounds of hospitalized patients
- Outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory surgery activities
- Surgery and Elective rotations
- Rotation to Medicine for two months
- Rotation to Anesthesia for four months
- Emergency room on-call while on OMFS service
