Pediatrics Residency Program
Pediatrics
Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center is the principal site for our residency training program. Our location in New York’s Hudson Valley grants us unparalleled population density and diversity. Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is regarded as the premier referral center of the Hudson Valley, the 150-mile, seven-county region between Albany and New York City. This ensures that our residents manage a wide range of childhood illnesses. With all pediatric subspecialties available on-site, and a large academic General Pediatrics division, Maria Fareri Children's Hospital has the highest acuity patients in the region.
About the Program
The program currently consists of 51 residents in addition to two chief residents. The residents are actively involved in the care of all patients, including children with Cystic Fibrosis, Inborn Errors of Metabolism, Level 1 Trauma, and children undergoing cardiac surgery, ECMO, bone marrow, stem cell and solid organ transplantation. Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital includes an inpatient ward with 69 beds, an 18-bed pediatric intensive care unit, a 52-bed, Level IV neonatal ICU, and a 12-bed, pediatric emergency department with over 15,000 visits annually. The well-baby nursery and delivery rooms are immediately adjacent to the children's hospital in the main tower of Westchester Medical Center.
The residency program currently offers continuity clinic sites in New Rochelle, NY; Yonkers, NY; Bronx, NY; Valhalla, NY and Peekskill, NY. All of these sites offer unique experiences for residents to manage patients under the supervision of attending faculty and community pediatricians.
In addition, our residents rotate through structured educational experiences at Sound Shore Medical Center, a nearby academic community hospital in New Rochelle, NY. During their rotation in the Sound Shore outpatient clinic, residents gain experience in more independent management of pediatric acute illness.
Westchester Medical Center offers the following ACGME-accredited fellowships in the following Pediatric Subspecialties:
- Pediatric Gastroenterology
- Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
- Pediatric Pulmonology
- Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation
- Child Abuse Pediatrics
