“MIDHUDSON REGIONAL HOSPITAL OF WESTCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER” IS THE NEW NAME FOR SAINT FRANCIS HOSPITAL AND HEALTH CENTERS
Westchester Medical Center (WMC) and Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers (SFHHC) today announced the new name for SFHHC—MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center, which will take effect on or around May 9, 2014.
“We are very excited about our new partnership, the new name and the future of the organization,” said Michael Israel, President and CEO of Westchester Medical Center. “The new name highlights the role the organization will play in the future, a healthcare partnership to care for the residents of the Hudson Valley region today, and far into the future during “our next 100 years.”
“Westchester Medical Center has been working very closely with the Saint Francis family and the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities to ensure a smooth and respectful transition,” said Art Nizza, President and CEO of SFHHC. “In the coming weeks and months we will begin to expand the breadth and depth of healthcare services offered in the region as we transform into MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center.”
Israel reminded everyone that, “We want to recognize the contribution of the Sisters and the value of spirituality in healing and are committed to working with the Sisters to honor their legacy and contributions. We need to respect the fact that the Saint Francis name must change to reflect what will now be a secular institution.”
MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center will continue to provide all of the fine services that are currently available at the Poughkeepsie location including such critical services as behavioral health programs, addiction recovery services, a special needs preschool, and Level Two Trauma Center, as well as well-known core medical services like joint replacement and physical rehabilitation, the latest robotic surgery procedures and a comprehensive cancer program.
The names of the home health program, the early education program and other programs will also utilize the MidHudson Regional prefix once the process is complete.
“We also plan to introduce additional advanced-care offerings locally to more patients in specialty areas such as neurosciences, cardiovascular and critical care. More healthcare services mean more jobs for the community,” added Israel. “We look forward to your continued support and encouragement as we work to strengthen the region’s healthcare for today and tomorrow.”
