Anesthesiology
Westchester Medical Center is one of four hospitals sponsoring anesthesiology residencies for students of New York Medical College. Our anesthesiology residency program prepares students to become consulting anesthesiologists through world-class education, training and hands-on experience in total patient care.
About the Program
The anesthesiology training program involves rotation through four hospitals: Westchester Medical Center, Danbury Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital Center, and Sound Shore Medical Center. Through their varied hospital rotations, residents have the opportunity to interact and work with a wide variety of patients in different clinical settings.
The program's training and education focuses on three core areas: clinical patient care, cardiac and advanced life support training and certification, and post anesthetic and intensive care. All three areas include academic and experiential learning opportunities, and students are expected to actively participate in anesthesia procedures, academic presentations, research activities and patient care. Residents specialize during their third and final year, performing more complex procedures and becoming fully trained to work independently as anesthesiology consultants.
