Give Back with Giving House

Buy or Sell a Home and Help Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital

Anyone who has ever bought or sold a home with the help of a real estate agent knows that writing that commission check can be painful - even when the agent has done an excellent job. But what if you knew a portion of that check was going to support a vital resource in your community ?

That's the idea behind Giving House, the first non-profit endeavor to provide long-term funding to worthy organizations through real estate.

Real estate veterans Steve Cid
and Kerry Fedigan-Cid were inspired
to launch Giving House after their
daughter was treated at
Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in 2008.

Founded by real estate veterans Kerry Fedigan-Cid and her husband, Steve, Giving House matches buyers and sellers with top agents in the Hudson Valley. These Giving House agents then donate part of their commissions to a designated non-profit.

And Giving House is beginning right here with Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.

How It Works
Giving House has built a "Dream Team" of top real estate agents in the Hudson Valley from firms like Houlihan Lawrence, Coldwell Banker, Houlihan O'Malley, Prudential Holmes & Kennedy, Better Homes & Gardens, and others. By choosing from these "best in class" agents, buyers and sellers of real estate can help support the Children’s Hospital Foundation at Westchester Medical Center

When the transaction is complete, the agent donates 20 percent of the commission. Fifteen percent goes to the Children’s Hospital Foundation and five percent goes to administering and growing the Giving House program."This is an opportunity for everybody to be a hero," says Kerry. "Both the clients and the agents feel a real sense of accomplishment in supporting an organization they believe in."

A Personal Connection
Kerry and Steve, who are residents of Crestwood, N.Y., were inspired to launch Giving House after their daughter Olivia was treated for a head injury at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in 2008. Olivia, then 11, had fallen off her bicycle and fractured her skull.

"When we arrived at the hospital, everyone flew into action. A pediatric neurosurgeon was right there. The staff focused so intently on Olivia that we felt like we were the only ones in the hospital," says Kerry. "It was an eyeopener for us to see the tremendous resource we had in our own backyard."

The couple resolved to find a way to give back to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. As experienced real estate agents – Steve is senior vice president and Kerry a vice president at Prudential Douglas Elliman in New York City, one of the oldest and largest real estate firms in America — they saw the answer in the countless real estate transactions that take place each year.

Giving House is a sponsored project of The Giving Back Fund, a national public charity that oversees more than 95 celebrity and sports foundations. This group's founder and president Marc Pollick called Giving House a "brilliant real estate initiative. It makes every buy and sell transaction a giving transaction."
