Tobacco-Free Campus

As of Jan. 1, 2011, Westchester Medical Center
is now tobacco free.

What does tobacco free mean?
This policy eliminates all tobacco use from all entrances and on all WMC property (WMC owned and/or leased locations/premises); all internal and external areas, parking garage, parking lots, entrances, exits (e.g. hospital areas, public areas, offices, rest rooms, parking lots, inside cars and outdoor areas) and all company-sponsored events.  This includes the use of pipes, cigars, cigarettes, chew, snuff, snus (spitless tobacco) and clove cigarettes.

To whom does the policy apply?
The policy applies to all visitors, patients, employees, volunteers, vendors, customers, consultants and contractors.

Why is WMC going tobacco free?
Tobacco use is the number one health risk in the nation.  As the region's largest and premier healthcare organization, it is important that WMC join the ranks of most other hospitals locally and nationally in going tobacco free. This initiative will ensure that our environment is healthier and safer for employees, patients and visitors.
