Computed Tomography (CT)

Computed Tomography (CT Scan)

Advancements in Imaging Technology

Advanced Imaging proudly offers Philips IQon Spectral CT as well as a Philips 256 iCT.

These CT Scanners provide high quality resolution images with ultra-low radiation dose. The significantly reduced radiation dose is a major advance in CT technology and is particularly beneficial for children.

Key Benefits

This technology is the most advanced available and provides faster scan times, lower radiation dose and a larger bore size.

What is CT?
CT (Computed Tomography), sometimes referred to as CAT Scan, uses x-rays taken at different angles to produce cross-sectional images. The images are used to take a look inside the body.  3D images can also be created to give better views of the anatomy. The resulting images are incredibly detailed and greatly assist in the diagnostic process by helping physicians visualize structures within the human body and how they relate to one another.

What should I expect on exam day?
In most cases, there is little specific preparation you need to undergo prior to a CT scan.  If you are having a CT scan of your head, we will require that you remove all jewelry, hair pins, etc.  If you are undergoing a CT scan of your chest, abdomen, pelvis or extremities, you may be asked to change into a patient gown.  Certain exams may require drinking oral contrast and/or a short period of fasting.  If so, you will be made aware of this when you book your appointment.

Will I receive intravenous injections?
Not all CT exams require contrast. If your exam requires a contrast agent, you will be made aware of this when you book your appointment. There are two different types of contrast depending on the type of exam. Oral contrast is given as a drink.  Patients are typically asked to come 1 hour before the exam to start drinking so that the contrast has time to travel through your system. There is also intravenous contrast that is given through an IV that will be placed by our skilled nursing team. If you have an allergy to IV contrast, Please let us know when making your appointment.  If you have any questions about contrast, our nursing team is available to discuss at 914.493.2500 x350.

How do I find out the results of my scan?
Your CT exam will be reviewed by a radiologist and a report will be sent to your physician.
