Ranked Among America's Best

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, the children’s hospital for New York’s Hudson Valley region and Fairfield County, Connecticut, ranks among the top children’s hospitals in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report in its 2013-14 Best Children’s Hospital rankings.

“Of 179 children’s hospitals surveyed, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center was one of only 87 children’s hospitals in the nation to be recognized by U.S. News.  This ranking is further affirmation of the high level of expert care provided by Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital to the children of our region and beyond,” expressed Michael Gewitz, M.D., Physician-in-Chief, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.

To gather data for its rankings, U.S. News used two surveys: a clinical questionnaire and, for the reputational assessment, a survey of 150 specialists and subspecialists in 10 pediatric specialties. The 1,500 physicians were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside location and expense.  Of those children’s hospitals surveyed, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital was cited by the magazine for its excellence in neonatology and pediatric gastroenterology/GI surgery.

Neonatology – Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is home to the area’s Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU), which carries a Level IV designation by the New York State Department of Health. This means the RNICU at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is capable of caring for the area’s tiniest and sickest newborns, who are transferred to the unit from community hospitals in the Hudson Valley as well as parts of Connecticut and New York City.  Learn more about our Neonatology services.

Pediatric Gastroenterology/GI surgery – This group cares for children with digestive problems, liver disease and nutritional disorders. It also collaborates with Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital’s exceptional pediatric surgery group and Westchester Medical Center’s dynamic liver surgery and transplant team.  Learn more about our pediatric gastroenterology services.
