Plastic Surgery Team

Edmond Ritter, MD, Chief of Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery, leads a group of plastic surgeons comprising highly skilled surgeons with the most advanced plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures.

All areas of plastic surgery, including breast, hand, craniofacial, burn, general reconstructive surgery, and all types of cosmetic procedures are represented among our team of specialists.

Free Tissue Transfer

While we offer a broad variety of surgical procedures, Westchester Medical Center performs complex reconstruction throughout the body, including free tissue transfer. Free tissue transfer involves taking expendable tissue from one part of the body and placing it where needed. For example, the tissue removed in a tummy tuck can be transferred to the chest and shaped into a breast after mastectomy for breast cancer.

Free tissue transfer is also used in the treatment of facial paralysis, head and neck cancer reconstruction and extremity reconstruction, including reattachment of amputated extremities.

Complex Hand Care

Complex hand care is an important pillar of our service. Westchester Medical Center is a major referral center for upper extremity trauma and is a leader in digit and extremity reattachment. Our hand surgeons treat patients with a wide variety of ailments, from elderly patients with arthritis, to newborns with congenital anomalies. Complex hand specialists manage pathology of the bones, muscles, arteries, veins, nerves and skin. Furthermore, our surgeons work in concert with our vascular and orthopedic colleagues concerning lower extremity limb salvage for patients with devastating injuries.

Pediatric Plastic Surgery

Our pediatric plastic surgeons provide advanced care for children with congenital anomalies. Although correction of the cleft lip and palate is one of the most common operations, these specialists also care for patients with other craniofacial abnormalities, vascular malformations, and congenital skin lesions. As a Level I Trauma Center, we also care for children with facial lacerations and fractures.

Cosmetic Care

Select Members of the Division of Plastic Surgery provide both surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic consultation. We provide skin care, injections and a myriad of surgical services, which includes both primary as well as revision for patients who desire improvement of previous procedures. We offer cosmetic solutions for all areas of the body. Visit ‘Our Services’ tab above for more specifics.

Lastly, our surgeons contribute to the specialty of plastic surgery by performing leading-edge research and contributing to the education of future physicians. Our members are constantly engaged in the development of new techniques and are at the forefront of facial paralysis treatment, microsurgical reconstruction and cranio-facial reconstruction.
