The Department of Ophthalmology at Westchester Medical Center specializes in the treatment of cataracts and ambulatory cataract surgery utilizing state-of-the-art techniques resulting in smaller incisions and no stitches. We also diagnose and treat general eye disease including eye inflammations, infections, glaucoma and retinal problems.

Services Performed and Conditions Treated

  • Corneal and External Diseases - Our department treats adult and pediatric patients with corneal scarring, chronic infections and viral keratitis. Services for these conditions include corneal surgery (penetrating keratoplasty) and complicated cataract surgery. This Section also manages patients with refractive errors who are interested in laser refractive surgery.
  • Glaucoma - We provide expert services in the diagnosis of complex cases utilizing the latest visual field instrumentation and an optic nerve analyzer. Our treatment services include the latest in medical, laser, and surgical treatments for glaucoma, including new eye filtration stents and new and effective medications for both pediatric and adult glaucoma.
  • Cataracts - Our department manages and treats adults and children of all ages with vision lost due to cataracts.
  • Retina Care - We diagnose and medically or surgically treat retinal and vitreous disorders such as Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular Degeneration.
  • Oculo-Plastic and Orbital Ophthalmology - Our services include the capacity to diagnose and treat disorders of the eyelid and orbital disease through surgical intervention, including cosmetic surgery.
  • Pediatric and Neonatal Ophthalmology - Our department offers comprehensive medical and surgical ophthalmic care for infants and children.
  • Low Vision - We provide contact lens services, including keratoconus and post surgical contact lens fittings. We also offer care for the visually impaired, including the dispensing of custom glasses, magnifiers, and telescopes.
  • Neuro-Ophthalmology - Our department provides consultative services in both pediatric and adult neurological vision disorders. We also perform surgical treatment of ocular dysmotility and Botox treatment and diagnosis of complex neuro-visual disorders.
